The fog moved in yesterday, along with rain and warmer temperatures. This morning the early light was pale and grey and the view of the water invisible to my eye, but not my heart, for it seemed to be sleeping, buried deep in the fog's pale blanket.Standing at the window, watching the mist swirl out below me I thought about what it means to be hidden. Sometimes it is frightening--not being able to see where we are going, not trusting others to see our true selves. Other times it is a welcome refuge, creating sanctuary and protection both physically and spiritually. But perhaps the most overlooked gift is the lesson all things hidden teach us about being alive in the world: we do not always have to see what we know inside, is there.
